Network Function Virtualization (NFV) has increasingly gained importance to address some emerging networking challenges like agility and cost-effectiveness. NFV enables run Virtualized Functions (VNF) on top of any generic, Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware, anytime anywhere in the network. Specific service providers offer VNFs prospective network providers. Service publish dedicated marketplaces where search instantiate them according a pre-established service-level agreement. On being proprietary specific providers, existing VNF description models include details deployment but fail fit functional non-functional specifications. This alters an efficient selection most relevant prevents full automation provisioning. paper introduces novel domain-independent VIrtualized networK functIoN ontoloGy (VIKING for short) publication federated repositories. It also proposes semantic-based matchmaking algorithm discover select that satisfy consumers’ requests. As validation, prototype called Mastermyr Chest, including VIKING’s instantiation along with matchmaker Content Delivery Networks (CDN) domain was implemented. illustrates new way contribute redesign CDN’s traditional architecture by enabling value-added CDN provisioning agile dynamic manner.
